Been missing for a few days and did not get to see Open, but..
I will be there for OSU/GW dual.
IMO I think some of us are being a little too hard on the guys and the results of the SE Open. I actually am quite pleased with how things went. I appreciate we want Latona to crush everyone and Brady to suddenly vault to AA level, but that is not realistic. A few pre-season bumps and bruises, but nothing reportedly serious at 141, 149, and 197.
Latona lost a very close match to a quality opponent in the finals. It will give him fuel for the fire and after last year's magical season, it won't hurt to have a reminder that you have to earn it again. Not a bad loss by any means. Myers check. Gerardi had a good event and is now ranked almost 20 spots higher than Hillegas, but this gap will close - these guys will push each other to new heights. Andonian will be fine once he returns. Brady lost a close match against another AA level opponent in Monday, but mostly well otherwise (except close W). Not sure what should be expected here, but I am very happy with this result in the first matches of the season for Brady.
Ulrey is the only real soft spot - I think we were all hoping for a little more at this weight. Maybe just a bad day. Mekhi check. VERY glad to see a version of the old Bolen back and dominating! Howard did very well and lost a close one at the end. Traxler is as advertised and Catka's close loss to another quality opponent is not a big deal IMO.
And in the Fr/Soph division we showed we are packed at the lower weights.
All in all, I am quite pleased with the results (only exception being 165#) and I think this season will be a special one when all said and done. [Post edited by Hokie Flyer at 11/10/2021 09:59AM]
